“I am going to sing for you, a little off key perhaps, but I will sing. I will sing while you croak, I will dance over your dirty corpse …
To sing you must first open your mouth. You must have a pair of lungs, and a little knowledge of music. It is not necessary to have an accordion, or a guitar. The essential thing is to want to sing. This then is a song. I am singing.”—
Henry Miller, “Tropic of Cancer”
Yeah yeah I know. I promised some of y’all that I’d stop with the Miller quotes. But then the other day, Jenny’s radiant facehole spazzed out (AGAIN) over Miller so I couldn’t help but be reminded of this. Regardless, I really shouldn’t have to justify myself to all of you. Y’all can get some vaseline for your butt-hurt feelings.
Moving on. This is one of my favourite quotes off of ‘Tropic of Cancer’. Why? Because it’s a chest thump full of brash confidence and quiet grace. Because it’s so fucking punk rock that it hurts you haters.
Passion > Precision, you know the deal. All day, every day.
real talk. Classixx hooked me up w this before it dropped ^___^ /braggin
OH MAH LAWD! Slow jam of the year, right?
This song makes me want to go back to middle school and have a gloriously awkward spring formal dance. No, scratch that. This song makes me want to have a billion awkward spring formal dances. When I finally get the guts to ask my date out, I want my prepubescent voice to crack wildly through my braces. I want to be terribly nervous; I want my sentences to sputter, I want my words to tumble clumsily on top of each other.
This isn’t merely music to slow dance to, this is music to step on your date’s feet with.
P.S This might veer slightly close to some of the ironic retro shit that I’m not particularly interested in, but I think their heart’s in the right place. I can appreciate the teased-out cheesiness of this joint. YOU CAN’T FRONT EITHER.
P.P.S Not that I’ve been paying extra-close attention to their work, but I have yet to hear Classixx make a wrong move. Ayo David and/or any fellow internets enthusiasts in the know, has there ever been a compilation of Classixx remixes released? If not, wanna point in the right direction and/or make one for us? Don’t make me beg. Coz I may. It won’t be pretty.
